Seminar

To: Registrants for all/part of the Washington Seminar, April 21-22, 2016
From: Barbara Cobb, Seminar Registrar 4/18/16
RE: Need-to-Know Info

The Seminar program looks very good - ATTACHED.
The Youxie delegation from Beijing, led by Youxie President Mme. Li Xiaolin, includes the top leaders of Youxie’s American & Oceanian Dept. and US Division. A small delegation from Xian is also attending the Seminar.

Friday Dinner
To attend the optional, dutch-treat dinner on Friday night after the Seminar ends, SEND ME YOUR NAME(S) NOW. The restaurant is very popular and is reluctant to reserve tables without confirmed diners. We are making reservations for 7 pm dinner on Friday at Chalin’s Restaurant (www.chalinschinese.com). Our Embassy friends highly recommend this restaurant, and the Youxie delegation will be there.

Wednesday - Meet & Greet & Registration -BreakLounge, 2nd floor  - 5:30–7:00 pm
Come and meet your friends, old & new. Register & pick up your Seminar folders.

Breakfast (complimentary to hotel guests) is available 7:00-8:30 am Thursday & Friday in the Bistro. Plan your time to have breakfast, register (as needed), and get to the Atrium (1st floor) by 9 am on Thursday, with everything you need for the day.

For Thursday tour (see more details on the program)
1. ARRIVE ON TIME (9 am) for tour instructions before boarding the bus. Stay with the group and on time as we move from place to place during the day.
2. BRING your photo ID – we pass through security at the Institute of Peace, Supreme Court, and US Capitol. Only those on our list and having a photo ID will be allowed to enter.
3. Wear comfortable shoes – we will be walking to and through several venues. Security restrictions may keep the bus from getting us close to the door.
4. LUNCH is on your own in the Supreme Court cafeteria. Line up by 12:15 for the 12:30 pm courtroom lecture (1st floor, Great Hall). If you have time, watch the 24-minute film about the Supreme Court - it runs continuously. Meet the group at 1:30 pm to walk a block to the Dirksen Bldg. (Map of area ATTACHED.)
5. By 2 pm, convene at Room 425 of Dirksen Bldg (Sen. Robert Corker’s office, our tour sponsor) for instructions and tour of US Capitol.  Tour lasts about 1.5 hours.
6. At 3:45 pm, depart on the bus for the hotel to freshen up.

Thursday 6:30-7:45 pm Reception at the Chinese Embassy
7. Be ready at 5:45 pm to depart on bus, dressed in business attire (not casual) for the Embassy reception.  Enjoy the Embassy, the welcome & short speeches, conversations, and food. Be prepared to leave at 7:45 pm.

FINALLY, I need volunteers to write summaries of some sessions for the US-China Review, particularly Thurs tour & reception and Friday short presentations. Let me know if you can do this.
