Eurasia Center Podcast on US-China-Taiwan Relations

Ralph Winnie joins Casey Chambers and Nick Klein on the Eurasia Center Wonkcast to discuss relations between the Republic of China and the People’s Republic of China and the role of the United States. Recently, Chinese aircraft have entered Taiwan's air defense identification zone (ADIZ) as part of a campaign of increasing pressure on Taiwan. They discuss this complex relation between Taiwan, China, and the United States along multiple dimensions: the legacy of the One China Policy, the spaces for economic exchange across the Taiwan strait and with the United States, and the popular sentiments in Taiwan and China. Drawing on his professional experience in US-China-Taiwan relations, Director Winnie discusses the importance of economic concerns (“bread and butter issues”) in the calculation of these countries’ populace.
