Ralph Winnie Celebrates the 61st Anniversary of Côte d'Ivoire Independence in Washington D.C.

 

Despite the constraints related to Covid-19, the 61st anniversary of the independence of Côte d'Ivoire was celebrated in both in person and virtually this Saturday, August 7, 2021 in Washington. The representative of the African Union in the United States, Hilda Suka-Mafutze, was among the guests of the country's Ambassador Mamadou Haidara. Update with A Iseny Ben Bangoura.

Uplifting Africa Program Reestablishes Relations with Ambassadors of Africa and African Union




Officials from the Uplifting Africa Program Attended a last Minute Reception in Washington, DC yesterday.

They reestablished relations with Ambassadors of Africa: Togo, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Mozambique, Namibia, and others...including the African Union!!!

Eurasia Center Podcast on US-China-Taiwan Relations


Ralph Winnie joins Casey Chambers and Nick Klein on the Eurasia Center Wonkcast to discuss relations between the Republic of China and the People’s Republic of China and the role of the United States. Recently, Chinese aircraft have entered Taiwan's air defense identification zone (ADIZ) as part of a campaign of increasing pressure on Taiwan. They discuss this complex relation between Taiwan, China, and the United States along multiple dimensions: the legacy of the One China Policy, the spaces for economic exchange across the Taiwan strait and with the United States, and the popular sentiments in Taiwan and China. Drawing on his professional experience in US-China-Taiwan relations, Director Winnie discusses the importance of economic concerns (“bread and butter issues”) in the calculation of these countries’ populace.

What was initially meant to be a set of opening remarks to kick off the two-day meeting turned into a public exchange of barbs and criticisms. Director Winnie analyzes what the exchange reflects about the stance of the new Biden administration and the Xi administration, as well as the implications for future cooperation and tensions.

February 25th, 2021 interview with RT on the Armenian election

 



Director Ralph Winnie speaks to RT International on the upcoming June election in Armenia and the political tension in between the Armenian military, with support from the opposition party, and prime minister Nikol Pashinyan. Amidst a political crisis following the unpopular peace deal with Azerbaijan, both the prime minister and the opposition are rallying supporters. Army officers issued a statement calling for Pashinyan's resignation, while the prime minister has responded by condemning their demand.
